Winner – Wimbledon 2018 : I advise taking this bet while covering with “To play in the final”
or with what to me is a practically certain bet of “To win the quarter”.
When I look onto the odds of the favourites, the only ones that I find with value are the ones favouring the Spaniard.
Yes, I know what you’re thinking: Nadal…Grass… that doesn’t combine well?!
It’s true, but I think this year things will be different.
Except for Federer, that he can only face in the final, I don’t see anyone having better chances of winning this than the Spaniard.
Of the traditional 4, Djokovic, despite the good signs recently, doesn’t seem capable of still lasting 2 weeks at the highest level.
As for Murray, that for me was already out of the picture just announced he has withdrawn from the competition which means we will complete a full year of Grand Slams where we didn’t have the “Big 4” simultaneously playing in any of them.
Then we have the always dangerous and former winner of this tournament, as well as defeated finalist of last season, Marin Cilic. But he is on Federer’s side of the draw, which means that Nadal will also only have to face him in the final.
Nadal has, on his side of the draw, what will be easy matches and that will allow him to keep gaining competitive rhythm and adapt to the grass.
Well, it’s worth reminding that in recent years, it has been on these “easy matches” (Rosol, Darcis, Brown or Kyrgios) where Nadal has been successively struggling, so I hope he will be very attentive and impose his game since the start, not easing up.
Winner – Wimbledon 2018 – Betting Tip and Prediction:
The only player that I see with the ability to bother Nadal will be Del Potro, although they will only meet in the quarter-finals,
a time where Nadal’s competitive rhythm will be at its peak and the grass will start losing its speed (due to the abrasion of a week of matches), that way favouring Nadal’s game.
On the semi-final, he will probably face Djokovic, although that’s a very sketchy quarter, with players like Kyrgios, Zverev, Thiem but also Edmund or Nishikori.
Therefore, and as I’ve said, despite the recent good indications, we will have to have a great Djokovic to win that quarter.
But whoever is the opponent of Nadal, I consider that the Spaniard will always be favourite to win.
And therefore, we are on the final, where he will face Federer or Cilic, and I believe that Nadal will always be the underdog, but since we have protected our bet, we will already be in profit.
As a worrying point, the fact that Nadal hasn’t played any preparation tournament on grass leaves a huge question mark regarding how he will adapt to the grass after another great season on clay.
However, according some reports I’ve read, it looks like Nadal made his preparation at home, in Mallorca. If on one side he loses by lack of competitive rhythm, on the other side he wins on physical terms.
