Cristiano Ronaldo breaks record and surpasses Pelé

Cristiano Ronaldo was born to break records. But for those who think that there aren’t any records left for the Portuguese to break, think again.

On their last 2018 World Cup Qualification match, Portugal has smashed the Faroe Island 5-1. The highlight, once again, couldn’t be any other: Cristiano Ronaldo.

CR7 scored an hat-trick in the match, and some of them were brilliant goals.

But the new record broken by the Portuguese was only found out after the match. With the 3 goals he scored against the Faroe Island, CR7 surpassed Pelé in the amount of goals scored for the National team.

Pelé had scored 77 goals in 92 matches for the Brazilian National team. Against the Faroe Islands, Ronaldo reached 78 goals in 144 matches. The average is a lot different obviously. But we can’t ignore another achievement of one of the best football players in history.

Ronaldo is already the top goal scorer in the history of the Portuguese National team, he is the player with more international caps, he is the team’s captain and he helped the team conquering their biggest title: EURO 2016!

More goals than Pelé on the National team

If that wasn’t enough, he know surpassed the best player of all time on this aspect as well. For those who expected Pelé to be jealous, think again. Pelé stepped up and congratulated the Portuguese for his achievement:

Congratulations @Cristiano for joining the elite five of #FIFAinternational goal scorers. Parabéns!

CR7 still isn’t the top goal scorer of all-time for a National team. In front of him there are still 4 players.

The top goal scorer of all time is the Iranian Ali Daei, with 109 goals, followed by Puskas with 84, then Japanese Kamamoto with 80 and at last Zambian Godfrey Chitalu with 79.

Of course this number achieved by Ronaldo is even more valued since the Portuguese plays in the World’s top competitions for Portugal.

Always against very qualified opponents. Congratulations CR7!
