Benfica vs CSKA Moscow – Champions League Prediction and Betting Tip Preview

Champions League

On this 1st round of the Champions’ League Group A, Benfica will face off against CSKA Moscow at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon.…

The Portuguese champions, Benfica and the Russian vice-champion CSKA Moscow will meet, in a matchup that will, in theory, decide which team will join Manchester United going into the next stage of this Champions League

If we have a winner here, that club will take a gigantic step towards qualifying for the next stage, which might be more obvious if Basel is able to get a surprising result in Old Trafford.

Possible starting XI’s:

Benfica: B. Varela, Eliseu, Jardel, Luisão, A. Almeida, F. Cervi, Pizzi, Salvio, R. Silva, Jonas, H.Seferovic

CSKA Moscow: K. Akinfeev, V. Vasin, V. Berezutski, S.Ignashevich, M. Fernandes, A. Golovin, P. Wernbloom, B. Natcho, G. Shchennikov, A. Dzagoev, Vitinho

Benfica comes into this match after a relatively consistent start of the season in terms of results, but not so much in terms of performances,

considering a lack of consistency on the playing quality they presented in some of the matches played, such as their latest match against Portimonense (although Portimonense deserve a lot of credit, obviously).

In what will be the first big test to Rui Vitória’s team, we’ll see if they are able to achieve a positive result in their ground.

As for CSKA, we can also see that the Russians have had a good start, who are already more advanced than the Portuguese in their campaign,

considering the Russian league has started in July, which is about a month earlier than the Eagles. Of the 6 matches they played away from home, only 2 of them finished with more than 2 goals.

Benfica vs CSKA Moscow – Betting Tip and Prediction:

I predict a very close and tactical match from both sides, considering both of them have clear chances to qualify for the next stage and the fact that they are very similar in terms of quality.

Both teams will try and get a positive result out of this encounter, to gain an advantage against the other, since they are direct rivals in this group.

Besides that, and due to the fact that they are consistent from the defensive point of view (at this point CSKA more than Benfica, clearly)

and the fact that this is the first match of the group stage, I think we will see a bit more caution than ambition from both Benfica and CSKA.

This way, I expect a low-scoring match (I fancy a 1-0 home win).
