Alavés vs Barcelona – La Liga Prediction and Betting Tip Preview

La Liga

In what will be the 3rd match of the 2nd matchday of La Liga, Alavés and Barcelona will face-off, playing their first home and away game in this competition, respectively.

For this match, we should highlight some important absences from Barcelona’s side, who will have to play this match without Luis Suárez, Andres Iniesta, Rafinha and Thomas Vermaelen, all due to injuries and none of them are set to recover soon.

Alavés goes into this season looking to repeat the success achieved last season, where they finished on a pretty decent spot in the league table and ensuring maintenance relatively early in the season.

They also reached the Copa del Rey final, against this same Barcelona, where they were beaten 3-1, with a lot of credit to Mauricio Pellegrino who led the team last season and has now moved on to manage Southampton in the Premier League.

Regarding their pre-season, the team didn’t achieve a lot of positive results, having also started their La Liga campaign with an away loss, against Leganes, on an interesting performance by the hosts.

From Barcelona’s side, the team has also had a good start to the season, being able to beat Bétis 2-0 at Camp Nou, with the 2-goal lead being achieved still in the 1st half, and in a match where the Blaugrana have shown some good signs, hitting the post several times as well.

For this match, Ernesto Valverde will have to find another backup solution to replace another big absence on the starting XI, with the certainty that any player he chooses will not be able to present the Uruguayan’s quality.

Alaves vs Barcelona Betting Tip:

If with Neymar’s absence things weren’t looking too bright for Barcelona, now with Luis Suárez injured, things are looking even direr now I think.

Especially for these away matches where typically their opponents close down and defend tight, giving Barcelona less space in the attacking third.

In this case, that’s exactly what I expect, i.e. an Alavés team focused on shutting down the paths to their goal and this way, making Barcelona’s life a lot harder.

Since they now are completely dependent on Messi’s inspiration to break down the opponent’s defence.

Therefore, I believe in a very close match tactically, with Barcelona struggling to play good football and to create good scoring opportunities, which would make the chances of a low-scoring match happening increase (I fancy a 0-2 final result).
