Rafael Nadal vs Diego Schwartzman – Australian Open: Rafael Nadal is a Spanish 31-year old that is ranked number 1 on the ATP Rankings.
He is a player who is mentally very strong, a true warrior, who likes to play from the baseline. He is very fast, never gives up and is definitely a very defensive player.
He prefers to stay on the baseline during the ball exchanges and doesn’t often advance to the net. He is a very athletic player, who can do very well on these 5-set tournaments and is a true fighter.
He was even outside the top 10, much due to an injury, and he is already the best, despite obviously having benefited from the injuries Djokovic and Murray, that have dropped a lot on the rankings.
We’ll see how 2018 but honestly, I don’t think he will be able to maintain this position.
The year of 2017 was obviously a successful one, where Rafa won 2 majors (US Open and Roland Garros) and 2 masters.
He has already beaten Estrella Burgos, Mayer and Dzumhur on this tournament, all in straight sets.
Diego Schwartzman is an Argentinian 25-year old tennis player, who is ranked 26th on the ATP Rankings. I think that he ends up being another version of Rafael Nadal, a weaker one obviously.
He is a short player with a very defensive style. He likes to play long exchanges from the baseline and moves very well around it, banking on his consistency.
He doesn’t exactly have great weaknesses, knows how to cover the court well and he is a returner that dedicates himself to trying to force the opponent’s mistake, being an authentic “brick wall”.
He has good technique, is very fast and manages to be consistent. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and despite not making a lot of “winners”, he is a player that has been making waves in world tennis.
He had a very interesting season last year, despite not having won any title, reaching the final at ATP Antwerp and showing he is becoming less of a clay courts player.
Rafael Nadal vs Diego Schwartzman – Betting Tip and Prediction:
Nadal is currently the best player in the world and the favouritism is understandable, not only here but also in the tournament.
However, Nadal still doesn’t fully convince me. He is excellent, but he has always faced opponents who are very inferior to him in terms of quality.
Schwartzman is a good player and the truth is that I believe he can put up a good fight. On the lack of the “Over” line, I’ll go with the handicap favouring the Argentinian.
